The Star was once a grimy but enjoyable boozer with Motorhead on the jukebox and a battle scarred pool table. Recently, it has been given the gastro treatment and prices have skyrocketed, but the food is very good and the place still has a laid back vibe.
There's a big upstairs room which is used for live music (including Earmusic Open Mics on a Thursday) and the odd comedy gig. The bar staff are friendly but not exactly on the ball. In fact, you could say they were dozy. Thankfully somebody in the kitchen knows how to organise prompt, tasty food.
This is a great local, with good beers, fine food, a garden for smokers, and a plentiful jukebox for non-band nights.
