Village Underground

54 Holywell Lane, Hoxton and Shoreditch, EC2A 3PQ

Instantly recognisable to Shoreditch habitués as the place with the tube carriages on the roof, this project space is both a landmark and a hub for cultural goings on in the East.

The graffiti-adorned carriages are in fact workspaces given over to local artists for the development of community projects, art work, theatre and film, and the building beneath is a vast warehouse used for exhibitions, theatrical events and big fat parties, planned by the roof top maestros.

Look out for innovative theatre performed in the round, fashionable art shows and the odd concert or rave in the Village. If something looks enticing, you should go along just to check out their enviable space. These guys have got warehouse chic nailed.

Quality venue - I'd love to throw a party here.

Stuff that goes on is a pleasant mix of highbrow/slightly Nathan Barley/rave ups - and anywhere with tube carriages on the roof gets my vote.

A really cool space with rustic brick walls, an open canvas that can really be adapted into pretty much anything!! Went to a party here that had cars in the middle of the venue as well as a mini roller skating rink!!! awesome!!

Looks good, great location. Acoustics are awful!

One of London's few good warehouse-style clubs. The sound can sometimes suffer from the huge ceilings and exposed brickwork but what it lacks in acoustics it makes up for in atmosphere. Well worth seeking out.
