Bernie Grant was the Labour MP for Tottenham until his death in April 2000. He was, and still is, something of a local hero.

In 2007, the Haringey Council opened the £15 million Bernie Grants Arts Centre in honour of his life and works. Today, with a 274 seat theatre, studio/rehearsal space, cafe, bar and gallery spaces, the venue plays host to all manner of cultural events.
