Massive Victorian pub on Newington Green with a refreshing entertainment policy in this area of quiet boozers full of locals.

A recent refurb has opened up the actual cellars as a live music venue and club for late-night drinking soundtracked by DJs,while upstairs retains the old-fashioned boozer vibe.

All in all, a nice pub in a nice area that all too often gets overlooked in favour of Angel and Hoxton on either side.

A bit of a downer during the week, but if you're lucky you'll find this place going off of a Saturday night. If you're a Green local and the weather outside is just a little too bitter to consider venturing out to Islington or Hoxton, this could be a good option for a weekend night out.
