Originally built in the 17th century in the ‘Village of Kensington’ for the Earl of Nottingham, this huge palace with its stately grounds became a favoured Royal Residence shortly afterward. Since Princess Margaret and Diana, Princess of Wales died, the palace has been assigned the role of bureaucratic stronghold of the Royal family. Presumably it'll be Prince Harry who moves in next, so go and have a look round before the chandeliers are replaced with strobes and Stringfellow's girls start taking residence.
It may not be the most beautiful of palaces, but the interior has some magnificent moments and the public gardens are perfect for a balmy summer's evening. Exhibitions are occasional, but the palace is open year round for public viewing.
Kensington Palace is currently undergoing massive refurbishment. While this takes place, the wonderful Enchanted Palace is on show for your delectation.
