You only want a pint in a decent pub, you think, 'I'll go into the first pub I see and have a pint.' You spot a place but it looks a bit nasty, you don't like the chalk writing on the blackboard outside, it's cocky. 'I'll try the next one' you think, 'after all there are 10 million boozers in London, no point in wasting time in a stinker.'
You get to the next one and its got net curtains so you can't see inside, screw that, it's probably full of psychos and razor crack gangs. So you keep going. You really want a drink and you're possibly with a slightly moany person who goes, 'let's just go into the next pub whatever, you can never tell from outside anyway'yeah, ok'.
The next pub's got nice big windows and comfy sofa's, looks fine, but hold on, what's that? A push chair! Good god, there's children running around in there, you just saw one of the little vermin. 'Let's just go in for goodness sakeabso-lute-ly not,' you scream, and rightly so. You'll take the razor crack gangs over those screaming attention-seeking little bastards. Next pub, sport, then students. Now your companion is crying and bleeding, but you'll be damned if you give up now.
The Exmouth Arms, will do, nothing about it makes you want to burn someone and sometimes in a strange place that's the best you can hope for.
