One of Shepherd Neame's new London acquisitions is Mabel's Tavern, a traditional boozer set in the heart of WC1. Its name refers to Mabel Macinelly who was born in Dublin, Ireland. Since her death she has been known to revisit the pub and on one occasion she called the landlady's name repeatedly in the early hours of the morning.
She has also been known to operate the dumb waiter that used to stand in the pub - this is a little eerie as the dumb waitier was ripped out of the pub several years ago. The occupants have heard it in operation in the early hours of the morning but when they investigated there was nothing to be seen. This is a great pub to enjoy a quiet drink on the way home from a long day at the office.
