With its oddly complicated interior and a rather empty downstairs pool room the Purple Turtle looks and feels like the sort of place where, in a film, you would go to meet an intergalactic bounty hunter. A number of the regulars look as if that's exactly what they are there for but this contributes to a light hearted atmosphere.
By nights the Turtle becomes pretty manic with a young crowd, lashings of cheap drink and events from live music to quizzes keeping the addled masses happy.
Not the place for a date or a reunion with old friends but as a gig venue, or a spot to get completely pissed, it does the trick.
The Purple Turtle is a lot less 'dive' than some of the pubs in Camden, a little tongue in cheek, a little rock n roll and with some pretty cheap drinks and an eclectic crowd it's always a fun night. One memorable gig saw the band dancing on the bar and a girl in non-existent lace up trousers jumping up and down to her own tune, which wasn't that of the bands, but still made for an awesome time
