Opened in 1929 as part of a larger complex housing Turkish baths and a library, Porchester Hall was intended for residents of Paddington, but its elegance and versatility soon spread its appeal across the city.
The grand hall is still regularly used for weddings, banquets, dances and meetings, as well as the occasional concert.
In February 2007, the hall hit the headlines when Canadian band Arcade Fire played a showcase gig there, carrying on their encore in the foyer.
