In 1860, one of the most renowned Victorian draughtsmen, Lord Frederic Leighton commissioned his friend, architect George Aitcheson, to build him a show-piece house in Holland Park. The result is Leighton House, a magnificent example of 19th Century architecture.
Today Leighton House is a public building and you can explore the many rooms filled with classical treasures Lord Leighton had collected from all over the world.
The focal point for the house is the 'Arab Hall', which has been used to showcase Leighton's vast collection of 16th Century Middle Eastern glazed tiles.
Not intended to be lived in, there's a tiny single bedroom, the only private space in the whole house.
