Ain't Nothing But Blues Bar

20 Kingly Street, Oxford Street, W1B 5PZ
Tel: 020 7287 0514

Does exactly what it says on the tin; live blues, in a bar, every night of the week.

Simple, and yet effective, this is the closest you’ll get to a New Orleans dive bar when a grizzled old soul boy takes the mic with his croaking voice and out-of-tune guitar.

Like a little bit of the deep south, just off Regent Street, this is the sort of place you could sit for hours and still leave wanting more.

Love this place. Live blues every night, amazing atmosphere, jugs of beer and huge plates of nachos. They even let me dance on the tables. Get there early though - this place gets packed.

Ain’t Nothing But was the first Blues bar I ever went to in London and I was immediately taken aback by the popularity of the place. Even on a Thursday night I’d judge by the snaking queue around the block that if you’re not in by 8.30pm you’re probably not getting in at all. The measly 50 odd capacity probably has something to with the queue but if you’re lucky enough to get in on your first visit, you won’t be disappointed. The music itself is brilliant and the extremely intimate setting means all performers are game for a bit of audience participation. Oh, but as a warning to all girls who stand near the front; don’t be surprised if a busy-haired harmonica player serenades you while you’re munching your nachos – it’s standard practice apparently.

Doing exactly what it says on the tin, this place ain't nothin' but a blues bar - and there ain't nothin' wrong with that. The walls are covered with pictures and posters of famous blues musicians, sheet music is stuck to the ceiling and live blues is played on a small stage in the corner every night of the week.

Beers and wine are kept well and not over-priced considering the Soho location. This is quite possibly the only dedicated blues bar outside of the US so well worth a visit, blues fan or otherwise.
