Established by Royal Charter in 1902 , The British Academy is an independent self-governing fellowship of more than 800 scholars that serves as the national academy for humanities and social sciences.

As well as supporting post-doctoral research and an active publication program, the Academy's huge building also hosts a lively schedule of lectures and symposiums designed to highlight the institutions work and stimulate debate within the academic community.
