Tramps is one of the most exclusive members clubs in London. Unlike other clubs, it has stood the test of time since opening on Jermyn Street in 1969 and little has changed since Johnny Gold opened the door to the likes of Zsa Zsa Gabor, John Wayne and Frank Sinatra. The music policy is a little staid but the atmosphere and sheer refinement of the place are something of a benchmark for younger 'posh' clubs.
Throughout its lifetime the great and the good have walked through its doors to party downstairs amongst its opulent golden mirrors and chandeliers. However, they operate a refreshingly rational door policy and you can gain admittance by the simple expedient of queuing up and paying.
Although the club is still a landmark for London's wealthy, famous party crowd, few of its current clientele could match Keith Moon's revelries when he did the twist naked on the dance floor.
