Originally housed above a pub in the 70s, the Orange Tree Theatre Company got their own premises in 1991 with capacity for 172.

Recently the theatre has stuck to a unique and so far very fruitful policy: they only stage work which has not been put on for at least a decade. You won't see anything at the Orange Tree except nearly forgotten old classics and obscure but somehow-still-relevant fringe belters.

So far, this old chestnut fixation has been a huge success. A legion of theatre aficionados now watch their schedules with interest to see something they either distantly recall or have never previously enjoyed. The theatre is not only popular – it has also been a trend leader, reviving interest in such playwrights as Joanna Baillie.

Comfortable, well equipped and consistently novel, this is a fringe theatre to cherish.
