A great traditional boozer in the middle of Soho, the Old Coffee House is slightly hidden away and also repels passing tourists with a hideous orange exterior. The place basically looks like a big cake, and inside it is just as much of a mess with knick knack antiques nailed to the walls, a grubby carpet and a rather rude landlord. However, a few drinks here makes you realise the beauty of the place is in the details.

The beer is great, with Youngs, Directors and Guinness, plus guest ales, all well kept and a short but serviceable wine list. The juke box is stacked with classics. The landlord likes a laugh and this place hosts a great comedy night on Tuesdays. Best of all, the underwhelming first impression means you can nearly always get a seat.
