Opening in 1931 with a performance of Elgar’s Land of Hope and Glory conducted by the composer himself, Abbey Road studios are the most famous and distinguished in London. They have welcomed hundreds of internationally acclaimed musicians to work and record. Most notably, The Beatles, who immortalised the studios in the title of their best selling album in 1969.
You used to be able to tour the studios but they have now reverted to type as a working studio facility and visitors can only gaze on the hallowed building from outside and visit the shop. Hmmm. Or, take a virtual tour and learn a lot more about the place online.
