Troxy

490 Commercial Road, Stepney, E1 0HX

Originally opened in 1933, and with 3,520 seats The Troxy cinema was one of the largest picturehouses in the country

By 1960 however, damage suffered during the Blitz, decades of mismanagement and the general decay of the area saw the Troxy to close its doors to the public.

Several new owners and a costly refurb later, and The Troxy is ready to open its doors again, with live music, theatre and performance arts once again gracing this art deco gem.

Cited as London's 'most versatile' venue you might expect to find it's capacity to host gigs to be a bit of an afterthought. However, the one-time cinema makes for an incredible place to see live music.

The layout of the room makes it easy to see the stage from almost anywhere in the house, and equally the sound quality is consistently great throughout.

Apart from being a little out of the way, it's hard to fault Troxy. It's difficult to see why they don't put more on there.
