Past highlights for the Novello include a two year run for Frankie Howerd's legendary roman sex farce A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum and a decade of laughter with Frank crawford appearing in No Sex Please, We're British.

In recent years the theatre has become the London home of the Royal Shakespeare Company, with audiences of over 1100 for The Tempest starring Captain Picard, sorry, Patrick Stewart.

This theatre right off the strand appeared quite small from the outside but was pleasantly surprising once inside. The stalls all offered excellent visibility and screens were conveniently placed for viewers on the upper levels. I can't imagine I would have enjoyed my time at the Novello quite so much from the upper balconies as it would have been very difficult to see any of the stage as overall the theatre was very tall but fairly shallow but if you can get a stall seat, it's comfortably, good viewing and an intimate venue.
