Sandwiched in between the Strand and the Thames, Victoria Embankment Gardens were designed with Sunday walkers in mind when they first opened in 1870 as part of the Embankment redevelopment.

Today, not much has changed, and they are an oft-missed sanctuary from the bustling riverside route from Westminster to the City.

The central bandstand hosts regular classical and jazz concerts, and there is also the occasional puppetry or circus show, making this a great destination in the beating heart of the metropolis.
