Founded in 1993 in a disused workshop, the Southwark Playhouse has gained a reputation as one of the capital's premier studio theatres.

A combination of classic revivals and new quirky and left-field productions often set up stage here, and it is now an integral part of London's fringe scene, and a reliable place to come for the best new writing.

The Southwark Playhouse is fairly easy to find: it's tucked away behind a pub, but as long as you resist the distraction of the water feature across the road then it's a fairly easy one to access as it's not too far from the local tube station.

The place itself is perfect for fringe theatre, which is what it usually provides, thanks to the low hire rates it offers. If you want a new, upcoming production to invigorate the mind then this is the place for you.

It can be a bit chilly in there though, so take a jumper!
