Recently taken over by a really energetic and welcoming team, the Miller has been transformed. The place has always done a good trade, being the nearest available pub to Guy’s Hospital, and in the past offered a good chance of chatting up a nurse or a medical student. Nowadays there are live bands or comedians almost every night of the week.

The beer has been sorted out but the place still has the slightly ratty charm of a cheap and cheerful boozer. Up The Arts is a properly entertaining left field comedy club and there’s an underground film club. Even better, there’s poker on Tuesdays.

It is heart warming to see this pub no longer sitting back and relying on the alcoholic tendencies of the medical profession. What is more, it turns out to be a great idea – the area needed some live music.
