Located on Brompton Road in Knightsbridge, Kensington, Harrods is the world’s most famous department store and with its famous Egyptian Hall and Food Hall, the store is a London tourist attraction in its own right. The London Harrods group of companies also includes Harrods Bank, Harrods Estates and Air Harrods. The offerings in the Harrods London store are a tad pricey except at sale time, when the place quite closely resembles hell, but there are some genuine bargains on offer.

Harrods is now owned by exuberant Fulham chairman Mohamed Al-Fayed, who has made some unusual additions to the store including the striking Egyptian Hall with pharaohs overlooking the escalators, and an utterly tasteless shrine to Dodi and Diana in the basement.

It is worth going to Harrods just for a look around, particularly to see the famous Harrods Food Hall. You’ll struggle to find a bargain or anything not available cheaper elsewhere, but if you have money, you can take advantage of their famous promise – they sell everything. The only request ever refused? A second hand coffin.
