The Wapping Hydraulic Power Station pumped out its final volt in 1977 and lay dormant for 23 years, until it was renovated by the Woman's Playhouse Trust. We like to joke that the renovation must have been a seriously major undertaking - a whopping project. Geddit??

Oh never mind

Since its opening in 2000, the Wapping Project has emerged as one of London's most ideosyncratic and memorable venues. The restaurant serving classic but expertly executed dishes at reasonable prices, and the surroundings really are incredible.

Open late six nights a week, the Wapping Project also plays host to all manner of performances, live events, talks and exhibitions by some of the capital's most promising young artists.

A fascinating socio-cultural art piece combining high-quality video and sound work, which might have worked better in a more intimate, less theatrical setting - the immersive, at times awe-inspiring experience was unfortunately ruined by the owner of the gallery/restaurant, a certain woman called Jules Wright, who decided to close the building early without warning and called me a 'f***ing idiot' when I wanted to finish watching the video, turning on the lights and pushing me violently out of the building. But, according to some reviewers, her 'eccentric and bohemian' attitude apparently justifies such violent madness. Off with conservative sensibilities like mine, let viciousness and abuse rule under artistic licence haha! the installation is probably worth defying the dragon, but be warned....
