Gramaphone is a prime example of what makes Spitalfields one of London's most exciting places. By combining city chic with Brick Lane good times, the bar has managed to create an atmosphere that is so right it’s uncanny.

With live bands, DJ's and a downstairs dance floor that lights up on a weekend, Gramaphone is a worthy addition to any night out in the East End.

SADLY THIS VENUE IS NOW CLOSED: 'Our closure is due to the fact that the council allowed luxury flats to be developed next door to our venue and then subsequent complaints from the residents of these new flats caused the council to take away our late night license for club events.'

Came here for a comedy night downstairs - does amazing and very cheap thai food and the bar area becomes really lively when the DJ kicks in. Downsides were: the very slow and bored bar staff and the area downstairs was probably not the best venue for comedy - there was a total lack of organisation on seating but I imagine it would be quite cool for a small DJ/band night.

I used to hold a club night here and I have nothing but positive words to say about the place. The club room in the basement is intimate with a great atmosphere and a thumping soundsystem, the bar staff and bouncers are enthusiastic, friendly and efficient, and the dj booth is ample in size and well endowed in terms of equipment. The bar/restaurant upstairs is a perfect spot to relax and escape from the dance downstairs, but you can also have a boogie here as there's a dj on weekends. It also serves delicious Thai food.. Sad to have left the place!
