San City High Label Launch Party

Something special is happening tonight at The Den; a night that has been anticipated by electro-lovers these last few months. It’s the launch party for San City High Records where the next generation of electronic geniuses are all meeting together under one roof to show their fans that they mean business. A very exciting prospect when you consider their frontman Kissy Sell Out and his protégées, who appear to be moving from one high to another.

After the majority of the party-goers arrive at 11pm, there’s a surge in excitement as Hot Pink Delorean kick off in Room One. The Den is split into two rooms and before these guys hit the decks I find myself intrigued about how they're going to filter the sound from each of the different dance areas. It's nothing to be concerned about, however, when you take into account that The Den and Centro actually has one of the most up-to-the-minute sound systems in London. This is very noticeable as you watch the DJs take to the decks ,and the fact that you feel like sardines as you’re watching them seems to matter less and less.

Hot Pink Delorean have travelled all the way over from Boston, USA and it’s clear they’re on a high. It’s the perfect choice by San City High to put them on first because the energy from Jon especially (the MC) gets the crowd pumped and ready. Their tunes are so heavy it’s almost hurting my brain but I think other electro fans would agree that this is definitely a good thing. They’re also proving themselves as dubstep connoisseurs by slamming out the best mix I’ve heard in a long time.

Next up to the decks is the daddy of the label, Kissy Sell Out, and his presence doesn’t go unnoticed by anyone. But his set would be best described as a taster, seeing as it only lasts half an hour. But in his own words “Tonight’s not about me”, and it’s clear that he’s there to support the other guys that he’s introduced to the label. But if his aim is to get people excited then he can definitely consider that achieved.

Time for a change of scenery as The Squatters step up to the corner decks of Room Two. It’s ironic that one of their most recent tracks is called ‘On Fire’ because these guys really are smashing it at the moment, especially with their most recent hit ‘Monster’. I can’t help thinking that they should be playing in the bigger room, although at this point I’m not complaining, with more room to dance and a lot less sweat! If you haven’t already, take note of these guys, because they are one of San City High’s biggest success stories and we’ll no doubt be hearing more from them.

Nero is next up in Room One. Although he’s not actually a specific part of the label, he's revelling in the glory of his Beatport Music Chart nomination by busting out some massive tunes. As the set passes by, we hear the likes of Justice, La Roux and the ever popular Rusko hit ‘Hold On’. Considering the fact that this night is full to the brim with students these well-known tunes are a perfect choice to keep the excitement going as some new tracks are introduced in between.

With the frankly outrageous calibre of these DJs, it’s no surprise that the night flies by. But the most noticeable thing is the sense of community you get from this label. All through the night, the DJs are part of the crowd, talking to fans and supporting each other. You couldn’t really wish for any more on a night out than feeling like you’re a part of it. And with San City High you're right in the thick of the action.
