Stanton Sessions Presents Breakspoll After Party 2010

Breakspoll Round Two...Amanda Gegg hits Matter for the after party, in the wake of the awards the night before.

After hitting it hard at Breakspoll last night I'm just about ready for a good nights sleep. However, there is not a single part of me that is prepared to miss out on the opportunity of a slamming after-party with the Stanton Warriors for their Sessions at Matter.

Tonight, the Stantons have invited the Breakspoll crew to share the festivities at their home-away-from-home, Matter. This is an undeniably exciting prospect for any breaks fan. But as soon as we step in the door we're struck with the fact that there's something not quite right...Room One is quiet. In fact this gigantic club room is so civilised that you can actually hold a drink in front of you without someone knocking it out of your hand.

This is all very strange, but then we step into Room Two and realise why. Breakspoll have set up shop in here and I can safely say that I've never seen this seemingly mediocre club room looking so lively and inviting. In past trips to Matter I've grown to write this room off as a place to calm down and relax, but tonight I am eating my words.

Tonight, the legendary Drumattic Twins, Slyde, Adam Freeland, Bennie C and The Freestylers are all supporting the fun side of breaks with an eclectic selection of mash ups that give even the previous night at Fabric a run for its money. In the aftermath of the awards yesterday, these DJs are tearing through all kinds of remixes spanning breaks, dubstep, hip hop and house. The party tunes are flowing with the added breaks kick and the room just gets more and more packed as the first few hours fly by.

Although it's tempting to spend the entire night in Room Two, there's no denying that the Stantons will bust out something special for the occasion and there's no other place for them than the almighty decks in Room One. From the moment they step up, a stampede of breaks followers plough on to the dance floor in order to see what they'll deliver tonight. There is that all-too-familiar Matter feeling of not being able to move and I quite frankly am relieved. As the green and blue Stanton lights switch on, the place goes off.

We find ourselves with a space on the side platforms which is ideal to take in the atmosphere, even if the bass does make it feel like a speaker has been shoved down our throats. It is not hard to see why the Stanton Warriors are at the top of their game, and even though we want someone new to come along and re-ignite the spark, it would be a sad scene without the incredible mixes these guys bust out. Tonight this includes classics such as 'Good Vibrations', 'Precinct' and 'Shake It Up', and that's just the tip of the iceberg. These guys are arguably the hottest breaks producers on the planet.

It's a shame, but not unexpected, that Matter begins to die down when the Stanton Warriors finish their set. Even I myself need to take some time to recover after that amount of energetic movement. During this time we bump in to a couple of the main breaks DJs, who are more than happy to have a chat about the events of the past few days. This is the beauty of the genre; there is no pretension. These guys all agree with what a fantastic Breakspoll this year has been, and how things are starting to look up. The only question is: how are we going to wait another year?
