Thursday night quiz at the Hob? Definitely, but don't go expecting your run-of-the-mill quiz night, and watch out for the decidedly odd quizmasters that run guest spots here every week.
Although pretty far outside London, Forest Hill's The Hob is a great night out for anyone wanting a meet up point for a group of friends. Easy to find, the Hob is situated right outside the station; great for stumbling back to the City after a sampling of the pub's produce. Inside you'll find friendly and approachable staff, and locals who you can tell come not only for a beer, but a competitive night of quizzing too.
The Quizmater's motto must be the weirder the better, but nonetheless he keeps us entertained throughout the proceedings. Donning costume after costume, you'll be forever entertained and kept on your feet, responding to a professor (with paintbrushes as sideburns!) a London geez, an invisible man, and most surprisingly, the presenter himself....with leggings (don't look too close!). The questions during the quiz are par, no harder than you've seen before, and some wildly entertaining puzzlers are on offer too.
The quiz is broken down into three categories: general knowledge, London knowledge, and a doozy of a category called 'Superheroes and Characters'. The breaks in questions allows the teams to enjoy their own conversation and makes the night last until just before closing time, which was superb for those heading back on the last train home.
So, expect laughs, a good few beer, and a nice crotch shot of your presenter. Enjoy!
