Deviation Preview

by: Benjamin Goode

Deviation is one of the freshest nights around. Benjamin Goode gets amped for the carnival edition.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. The legendary Deviation night needs no previews, no reviews and no introduction. Deviation hits full capacity week in week out, and such is the effort invested by curator and resident, the international playboy DJ Benji B, that I imagine it to be less of a profit-making enterprise and more a progressive musical movement toward a state of enlightenment. We must, after all, get closer to the essence of life.

Except this month’s edition is an extra-special one. It being carnival weekend and all, Benji B has recruited a line-up to blow the dust off the dancing shoes of even the most pebble-hearted cynic. For the sake of expediency I'll list it here.

DJ Zinc (back to '95 jungle set) …when does that ever happen?
Geeneus ft Katy B & Tippa (house & funky)
Groove Chronicles (classic garage set)
Martelo (hip hop set)
Benji B (Carnival set)
Judah (MC/selector)

The poster alone should serve as encouragement enough but if you do need any more information then, to use the common parlance, you’re a wasteman.

Nowadays when there are so many countless imitators and faceless corporate brand-led nights we should be thankful that there are still nights like Deviation to bestride them, as the genuine article where anything can happen. It’s exciting times on the London club scene.

The Deviation Carnival Special is at CAMP on Sunday August 29th at 10pm.
