Tori Amos at Hammersmith Palais

Tori Amos at Hammersmith Palais

In a world where everything is getting more expensive and massive acts are harder and harder to see there are a few artists left who will never disappoint. Tori Amos is one of them. Worth every single penny you pay, she always leaves you wanting more, and her show at the Hammersmith Apollo on the 4th July was no exception.

Stunningly turned out and with John Evans and Matt Chamberlin supporting her as ever, on bass and drums respectively, it was a tight and spectacular show. Opening with tracks from her latest album 'American Doll Posse' Tori proved that her musical talents are still awe inspiring to say the least. Belting out the vocals whilst tinkling the ivories (sometimes on keyboard and piano simultaneously) the Apollo was filled with sound.

After a costume change into an amazing glitter all-in-one-off-the-shoulder number in patriotic stars and stripes (it was Independence Day after all) Tori returned to the stage and some old favourites. 'Caught a Lite Sneeze', 'Cornflake Girl' and 'Winter' to name but three. The band left her to it for a passage of songs mid set, giving the audience a real taste of her powerful vocal range.

Encores can often seem formalised and stage but with fans rushing out of their seats for the last few songs, friendly hands extended, Tori seems to make these an event in themselves. Singing 'God', 'Waitress' and finally 'Hey Jupiter' the crowd snuck forward down the aisles to form a circle of love around the stage, and they were rewarded by a handshaking Ms Amos. A really perfect night.
