Matinee Group are behind countless parties across Europe, with their winning combination of the hottest go-go dancers, cutting edge music policy and DJs, and Ibiza style production. Voted best club of 2007 by Seen Queen readers, Matinee London introduces it's sister club Revolver.
Arriving at Scala it's soon clear that the summer's gorgeous continental clubbers are back in London, keeping the party going right here. Circuit style clubbing has all the hedonism and hard on house of the usual Vauxhall Orange clubs, but with the glamour and fun that only these kinds of events can bring.
The infamous Spanish Matinee style is reflected in the stage, visual set up, and lighting, with a glitzy red and black uniquely Revolver theme. Go-go dancers adorn the stage and get the party going, wearing rubber, leather, and plenty of diamonds and guns. The top notch production is also obvious in the line up, with international superstar DJ and producer Tom Stephan at the top of the bill. I chat in the toilets with some excited boys who say he's one of the best DJs in the world, and as we return to the dance floor I wholeheartedly agree. His set is seamlessly, achingly good, every track completely fresh – progressive enough to keep everyone dancing, pumping enough to make us wonder how dancing can feel quite this good. The sound system is incredible, loud enough to project throughout the whole building while remaining audibly clean and crisp.
Revolver attracts all the familiar faces and muscles, but coming slightly out of the way of Soho or Vauxhall and over to King's Cross means that everyone here really wants to be. The only potential problem is Scala's location and size, nights hosted here may not get the attention they deserve. But with the recent shake up in Saturday night clubbing, there isn't a better time to check out Revolver.
Fire may be losing it's heat, with DJ Paul Heron leaving on grounds of music policy, and with a change in promoters it will be interesting to see how this affects their door policy. Heaven is getting even more of a 'camp attack' by G.A.Y, and so we need a new home for underground dance music and we need it fast.
Revolver snaps up the cream of the crop, with DJs Pagano, Oliver M, Guy Williams, Paul Heron and more, and is setting it all up at The Astoria. Now slap bang in the middle of the West End, Revolver is bringing new life to the scene. Expect Revolver to completely transform the venue, with London's best underground house, progressive, and electro DJs pumping out tunes over its two dance floors. The place will be packed with sexy stylish clubbers, and I can't wait to be one of them.
Join me in the Revolver revolution! The launch party at Astoria is on Saturday 18th October.
