SuperMartXe 'Kaos City' at the Coronet Theatre

SuperMartXe 'Kaos City' at the Coronet Theatre

Spain's hottest export Matinee has a new contender - SuperMartXe. Across Barcelona, Madrid, and Ibiza, SuperMartXe is hosted in huge venues like Space, Privilege, Heaven, and the legendary Souvenir. Taking this year's Spanish pride events by storm, SuperMartXe's unique metrosexual mix of glamour, glitz and gay is unstoppable. After going to a phenomenal SuperMartXe Halloween party in Madrid, I couldn't wait to catch its next stop - SuperMartXe London.

London legendary nights such as DTPM at The End and Trade at Turnmills are sadly lost along with their venues, and with the GAY takeover of Heaven and the downturn of Fire, we're all hoping for clubland to offer us something fresh. SuperMartXe breathes new air into the scene, not only with its friendly, European feel, but also with the excitement that only a big circuit party can bring.

With baited breath we are turned away from the SuperMartXe launch party. So for the Kaos City event we arrive early, around midnight, and smile as our names are swiftly ticked off the list. Despite being in the very un-gay area of Elephant and Castle, the Coronet Theatre proves the perfect location for the night, with its underground feel. With this old theatre's charm and beauty combining with the raw, energetic music and crowd, we've got the perfect ingredients for the best gay party in town.

Micky Galliano warms up the crowd with some amazingly uplifting hard house tunes, and as the show opens at 1.30, it's clear they are pulling out all the stops to make something spectacular. SuperMartXe Spain's resident Pablo Kopanos takes over the decks and ups the pace. The curtains slide back to reveal a huge stage with a New York City street scene, and out of the ghetto strides P.A. Therese complete with two gorgeous go-go dancers. Hard-edged music with pyrotechnics, lasers, and even more dancers gives an atmosphere that's truly electric.

A cheering, dancing audience fills the whole main room, with big muscles and even bigger smiles. As Therese finishes her final song, Supremo Steve Pitron opens his set with White Isle anthem 'Sundays at Heaven', and then continues to mix up the Euro style house and classic anthems with some twisted electro and hard house tracks. He keeps the pace high and with his hands in the air enthusiasm the club is full of energy right through to 7am.

This DJ does not wind down, and an elated crowd of revellers keep dancing even as the lights come up. London rarely sees a night like this – with a dramatic and pretty debauched venue and show, most notably with one of the stage performers at one point getting naked and revealing something rather, um, sizeable. The exhilarating Spanish style translates well into the London scene, and the glitterati and A listers are all out tonight to share the experience. We spot more than a few famous faces, along with some familiar and super friendly Vauxhall faces. The Coronet is packed out from the get go, a sure sign of SuperMartXe's success to come.

What makes SuperMartXe different is the effort that goes into the show – with the stage, set, choreography, dancers, performers, and DJs giving their all. SuperMartXe's trademark spectacular style is a new clubbing concept to London, and with the newfound excitement it brings, we hope SuperMartXe is here to stay.
