Part sound system, part South American orchestra featuring an ever changing group of like-minded singers and MCs, Latin Dub Sound System have built themselves a formidable live reputation that has seen them thrill festival crowds at The LoveBox Weekender, Glade and Secret Garden Party this past summer. This Friday they join hosts Planet Man and The Internationalz in bringing sweet melodies to the intimate, laid back surroundings of Dalton's British Arts Council funded Passing Clouds. The venue is home to one of East London's most vibrant new arts ventures and host to many an art, theatre, film and music event.
LDSS eclectic live sound is created by ten or more musicians and singers mixing Latin percussion, house-driven melodies, dub beats, uplifting vocals, flamenco guitars, mambo horns and rap into a musical hotpot - defying any pigeon holing in the process. This impressive fusion might sound like it could be a jack of all trades but master of non concoction, however its testament to the band's musicianship and arrangement skills that the sonic brew that spills from the speakers tastes just right.
Completing the headlining double bill are Planet Man and The Internationalz - members of the Passing Clouds Collective who have also had a busy summer performing on the festival circuit. The Internationalz blend reggae, soul, afrobeat and funk into their own distinctive style led by charismatic, singer, songwriter, guitarist Planetman bringing the good time festival field vibes to proceedings.
Passing Clouds is split across two floors with the bottom floor hosting the bands and DJ Cal Jader of the Movimientos crew on the decks spinning funky grooves. Also on the ground floor are the Urgent Union DJs playing the upbeat party numbers which saw them go down a storm at this year's Notting Hill Carnival. Upstairs will feature DJ Tofowski (Continental Drifts) bringing swing, ska, and gypsy tunes into the eclectic mix. With line-up's this varied and exciting, Passing Clouds is fast becoming the place to be for great music served up in a uniquely chilled out atmosphere.
