Every Monday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Dom Haley selects his top three gigs.

Spectrals

Monday 18th January
Damo Suzuki @ Cafe OTO
One of the driving forces behind Can’s influential mid ‘70s period, Damo Suzuki is revered as something of a legend amongst beardy experimental rock lovers. Playing Dalston’s jazz hang-out Cafe OTO, this should be rammed, judging from the response his churning, psychedelic jig  received when he played the Hoxton Square last year.

Thursday 21st January
Spectrals @ Old Blue Last
Sort of like a British version of Wavves or Blank Dogs, Spectrals is a one-man garage band from Leeds that makes dreamy experimental punk that sounds like a cross between Sonic Youth and Phil Spector firing blanks. Playing the Old Blue Last as part of week of shows to celebrate the venue’s recent refurb, you’d have to be pretty dead inside not to find his sardonic Modern Lovers meets Crystal Stilts act at least a little bit cute.

Saturday 23rd January

Shhh... @ Cecil Sharp House
Designed to separate acoustic music from those annoying tossers who talk through acoustic gigs, Shhh... brings some of the world’s finest singer-songwriters to the beautiful surroundings of Cecil Sharp house for a celebration of quiet music. Featuring artists like Jon Hopkins, David Thomas Boughton and Oh Ruin, it should be a nice change of pace compared to the usual Saturday night buzz-fest.
