Gettin' freaky...

It’s been a while since we last saw anything from Sex Beet. I guess in between becoming a 4-piece, moving to Sweden, playing in various other bands and recording an album with King Khan in Berlin, they forgot to check in with us. But hey, that’s understandable.

Anyway, on Saturday they’re both putting on and playing their first London date in asbsolutely ages down at the Old Blue Last. One of the official after-show parties for this year’s 1234 Shoreditch Festival, it’s headlined by awesome-looking Swedes Sudakistan doing some crazy latino-psych garage stuff and also has The Phantoms, Boneyards, Thee MVPs and Bank of Joy in support. Basically if you like your rock old school-sounding a soaked in beer and cheap cologne, then this is the night for you.

Never one for doing regular interviews, Luke skived work last week and trawl Youtube for the songs that are sountracking his life right now.

Name a song you can't get out of your head…

Goat - 'Let It Bleed."' Right now I'm working at Stranded Rekords in Stockholm, and these are our latest signings to the label. The whole record is fucking great, and sounds beautiful. It's my album of the year so far, and this is probably my favourite track from it.

What's the song that inspired Sex Beet into existence?

I guess I should really say Sex Beat by Gun Club, but the name actually came a while after me and Tom started this band. I think anything by Black Mekon really inspired us to get Sex Beet going, their whole attitude about everything is pretty spot on, not to mention their sound. Definitely one of the best bands in the world, people just don't know that yet.

The first song/single you ever bought

Bran Van 3000. I remember being really young, my mum gave me one pound to spend in Leicester city center. It was the first time I was allowed to walk off around town alone I think. One quid is quite a lot to spend in Leicester actually. Anyway, there was an Our Price shop, and this was in the sale bin on cassette with a paper case. I still DJ this song every time I can - how fucking cool is the guy’s vocals sound?

The greatest song ever

This is a hard one. I'm gonna go with Compulsive Gamblers- "Stop & Think It Over." I think it's between this and Gun Club’s ‘Jack On Fire.’ Everything about both of them is just perfect rock and roll.

A song you'd recommend to people planning to make sweet, sweet love

Pretty much the most romantic song of our generation, no? I sing it a lot to my girlfriend Emma, it hasn't worked yet, but I'm persistent.

PNKSLM presents Sudakistan is on at the Old Blue Last this Saturday. You can check out an MP2 from the headliners here.
