Straight outta Acton

Life has a habit of making me look like a proper dick sometimes. Just the other day I was shooting my mouth off and telling everyone that there is no decent music coming out West London, and then just to prove me wrong this bloody MC comes out of West Ealing and makes me looks like a prat.

Renowned for his inventive, rapid fire, Busta Rhymes-style delivery, Scru Face aka Scrufizzer has been making music since the age of 13. Taking his artistic cues from old skool r’n’b, East London grime, UK funky and even a bit of jazz, he’s been busy making these oddly mind-warping hip hop bangers that sounds like Dizzee Rascal crossing swords with Com Truise. It’s a style he’s helpfully labelled ‘fizzy’.

Steadily building a reputation as one of London’s hottest new talents, the last two years has seen him rising steadily through the ranks of the UK underground. Beginning with shows alongside DJ Camoe, he’s since clocked up collaborations and performances with the likes of Dizzee Doneo’o and Skepta and scored backing from Rob da Bank, Trevor Nelson and pretty much the whole of BBC1Xtra. Generating the kind of hype not seen since that Wiley record back in 2004, I think we can confidently predict that you’ll be hearing a lot more from this guy before the year is through.

That's a cool leather jacket you've got on in the video for 'What's New', where did you get it?

Ha ha, I like keep my sources exclusive…

How would you describe 'Ffzzy' to indie kids like us?

Creative, energetic, unexpected, versatile and unpredictable

What sort of stuff influences your music?

The main influence to my music would be my everyday life experience – I try to grab situations and scenarios from myself and others and express it though my music.

What's the scene like in West London at the moment?

The scene in West London seems to be very positive at the moment; I've got a supportive backing from my area.

Where's decent to go out over there? Who else should we be looking out for?

I recommend Bagel Bite because it's open after a late night studio session! I'd say look out for Frank Faith – an amazing rapper, you'll know about him so soon

Scrufizzer has a new EP ‘Stay Fizzy’ coming soon. His new single ‘What’s New’ is out now.
