Bonza!

Whilst 2011 has thrown up some amazing records so far, you have to admit we’ve been a bit short on feel-good party bangers this year. Both the Yuck and Mazes records are amazing and everything, but you can hardly stick them on and expect people to go mental, and with the recent Black Lips record coming across more than a little flat, I’ve been seriously missing some breaking stuff music recently.

I’m holding out some hope for Bleeding Knees Club, though. Looking like they’ve stepped out a beach scene from a recent Home and Away, these Queensland natives are hardly re-inventing the wheel with their blissed-out feel-good proto punk, but you have to admit that ‘Have Fun’ could just be the soundtrack of what’s left of our summer.

Like all good party music, BKC specialise in quick three-chord jams about nothing in particular. Their songs barely ever last longer than three minutes, and the lyrical subjects generally revolve around lofty topics like hanging out, kissing girls and having feelings. It might not be pushing the envelope any further, but if you’re looking for music to go nuts to on a Saturday night, these dudes really have it nailed.

Only forming in March of last year and already touted as the next Wavves by the terminal comparison addicts at the NME, in their short existence they’ve already managed to rack up shows supporting Lightspeed Champion, The Soft Pack and Mark Sultan. With a new record just about to hit the shelves, the band are in London to play a couple of shows over the next few weeks before they jet off on tour with Australian rockers The Vines. Remember them?
