And you thought your Christmas sucked?

Did you have a bit of a rubbish Christmas this year? Aw diddums. What did those bastards at home make you do? Eat Brussels’ sprouts? Go for a walk straight after dinner? Get over it mate, or better still, spare a thought for poor old Jerry Tropicano. While you were gorging yourself on Quality Street and watching Dr Who, this poor guy was banged up in Sweden prison after making the fairly innocuous mistake of going on tour with Sex Beet. How unlucky can you get?

A moustachioed, chain-smoking cool dude who I had pleasure of watching stumble round a house-party up in Stoke Newington late last year, getting thrown in the clink has definitely not done Tropicano's fledgling musical career any harm; he’s already the talk of London’s blogosphere despite having never actually played  a show in England. One of those one-man-band garage rock outfits that everyone seems so fond of now-a-days, he sounds like some unholy mash-up of Ty Segall, Mark E Smith and Jacques Dutronc, who, let’s face it are 3 of the most awesome people ever.  Think wonderfully lo-fi indie rock that’s both horrendously cool and slightly wide-eyed and naive at the same time.

Luckily for us, he gets out of the slammer this week, and rather than going home and keeping his head down, he’s heading straight over to London for a massive release party at the Old Blue Last. Going purely on reputation, it has the potential to get pretty messy. Here’s hoping  no-one calls the cops.
