Skaters, Parakeet and Mission of Burma: Editor's Choice - Live Music
03 December, 2012

Dom Haley selects his top three gigs for the week ahead:

Tuesday 4th December
Skaters @ The Social
SKATERS - Schemers by Believe Digital UK
This might be a sweeping generalisation, but judging from past experience, for a band from New York to be really successful, they should try and sound as "New York" as possible. The Strokes did it with the Ramones, MGMT did it with Talking Heads and Skaters are doing it with a weird mix of Interpol and Television. They’re probably going to massive.
Wednesday 5th December
Parakeet @ The Waiting Rooms
Tomorrow/Paper, Scissors, Stone by Parakeet
If the last 18-months have taught us anything, it’s that no-one can do breezy, US college rock quite as good as London art-school kids. Parakeet are the ultimate expression of this. Made up of members of Yuck and THOAP, they’re almost a straight throwback to the messy noise rock of the early 90s and basically sound like a straight cross between L7 and the Breeders.
Thursday 6th December
Mission of Burma @ Birthdays
Mission of Burma - 'That's When I Reach For My Revolver' by FIRE RECORDS
Considered by many to be the band who laid the foundation for American indie rock, Mission of Burma emerged from the late 70s punk scene with a sound that was loud, confrontational and always experimental, but had a heart made out of purest pop gold.
