Who to See at the 1234 Shoreditch Festival

Going to 1234? Yeah us too. Here's who we're planning to check out...

Brown Brogues

Playing the Pre Party at 333

As a two-piece most people are tempted to compare Brown Brogues to Death from Above and Blood Red Shoes, but the truth is that despite being limited drums and a guitar these guys sound like Iggy and Stooges back in their bombastic ‘Raw Power’ days.

Just back from a tour of America, these dudes will knock the fillings straight out of your mouth.

Sex Beet

A few guys who’ve been knocking around London’s live scene for a little while now, Sex Beet make messy but party ready garage rock about annoying girlfriends, rubbish surfers and the joys of Christmas.

Now featuring Henry from Lovvers on the bass, these guys are just about to record with King Khan and will probably be the raddest band in Europe by this time next year.

Echo Lake

A five piece who take the slow, terse noises made by the likes of Slowdive and make it a lot more exciting, Echo Lake are taking the shoegaze revival to epic and cosmic new ground.

A band that seem to be able to navigate contrasts with easy, they manage to be dreamy without being dream pop, psychedelic whilst staying coherent and crucially always interesting.

Weird Dreams

A trio made up of Doran, who writes the songs, Craig who plays the drums and Hugo, who rocks the bass, listening to Weird Dreams is the closest you can get to a good acid trip without having to worry about flashbacks and getting busted by the cops.

Whilst definitely rooted in the traditions of Lou Christie and all the stuff that was released on Kent records back in the 60s, their music seems to have this modern edge that reminds me of bands like The Pastels and Aztec Camera.

Black Lips

Yeah, OK, their last record was produced Mark Ronson, but that hasn't stopped Black Lips being the craziest band out there at the moment.

I’ve seen them 3 times, and every gig has been a crazy stop/start riot where bouncers are ridiculed, equipment gets trashed and someone takes their clothes off. If this doesn’t make you want to see this band, then there really is something wrong with you.
