A monster, a doctor and a Fulcher: Editor's Choice - Comedy

Every Friday, our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Emma McAlpine selects her top three gigs.

Monday 16th-Tuesday 21st January
Rich Fulcher's Tiny Acts of Rebellion @ Soho Theatre
This was one of the few shows we gave a five star rating to at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe. The Mighty Boosh's Rich Fulcher demonstrates how to stick it to the man through a series of videos, audience experiments and petrified yogurt cups. Along with his (not so) helpful assistant Arnab, Fulcher shows us how we can fight the madness simply by being ourselves. As he explains, "We may not be able to overthrow governments, but we can flip off our waiter behind the menu."

Tuesday 17th January
Monster Comedy @ Leicester Square Theatre
One of the best new sketch nights around, Monster brings you the latest and greatest talent on the circuit every third Tuesday of the month - and what's more - the proceeds go to charidee. Following a rip-roaring Christmas special, January's line-up looks just as tasty with comedy from Edinburgh Comedy Award nominees 2011 Totally Tom, rising star double act Dregs, kooky Canadian Mae Martin, ace character comic Nick Mohammed and mind-boggling physical comics The Pajama Men.

Monday 16th-Saturday 21st January
Doctor Brown: Becaves @ Soho Theatre
Yes, I'm aware I'm recommending two Soho Theatre shows this week but they are both. so. good. Master of absurd physical comedy, Doctor Brown presents his second Edinburgh smash hit show, a surreal hour of prop-based stunts and amusingly uncomfortable audience interaction/molestation. Like comedy Marmite, you'll either love or hate him. Encompassing mime, clowning, nonsense and nudity - what more could you want in a comedy gig?
