Editor's Choice - Comedy

28 May, 2010
by: Emma

Every Monday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Emma McAlpine selects her top three comedy nights.

Tuesday 1st June
Robin Ince: Troubled Youth in Middle Age @ Etcetera Theatre
This week you should grab the opportunity to see circuit headliner Robin Ince's new 2010 show. The razor-sharp Book Club host will be raging against pseudoscience, newspaper columnists and his own stupidity, while then celebrating Texan philosophy teachers, Carl Sagan and how his child is better than everyone else's.

Friday 4th & Saturday 5th June
Tommy Tiernan: Crooked Man
@ Udderbelly

Multi award-winning Irish comic Tommy Tiernan returns to the UK with his no-holds-barred approach to sex, religion and family. As part of the Southbank's comedy festival, this is a rare chance to see the passionate and straight-talking comic. And don't expect him to hold back for us polite Brits - no subject is out of bounds for this fiery stand-up.

Saturday 5th June
Stewart Lee reads from Arthur Machen
@ Stoke Newington Airport

Did anyone else wonder when Stoke Newington got an airport and quite where they put it? No, just me then. While Mr Lee may be performing in about 20 different London clubs this month (hey, we're not complaining), this is a chance to catch him doing something a bit different, reading N, a short story by horror writer Arthur Machen, as part of the Stokey literary festival.
