Editor's Choice - Comedy

23 August, 2010
by: Emma

Every Monday our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Emma McAlpine selects her top three comedy nights.

Monday 23rd-Saturday 28th August

Neil Hamburger
@ Soho Theatre
American absurdist  Neil Hamburger has thrilled and bewildered audiences worldwide with his uncompromising and inventive comedy. Subverting comedy conventions and performing with kamikaze recklessness, Hamburger has gone down a storm in Edinburgh this month and luckily for us Londoners, he's bringing his show down south
this week.

Monday 23rd-Thursday 26th August

Robin Ince Asks Why?
@ Camden Head
Like a funny university lecturer on speed
, Robin Ince brings you his new science-savvy show, whipping through topics including dark matter, seahorses, rainbows and climate change, at usual break-neck pace.

Friday 27th-Saturday 11th September

Doug Stanhope
@ Leicester Square Theatre

It seems far too long since we last heard this bilious American's nihilistic views on life. When Stanhope's London shows were announced early this year, there was a lot of excitement and ticket booking in the Spoonfed office. This week he finally arrives, having no doubt swallowed some amphetamines and a bottle of Jack to help him get through the flight. If you like your comedy a little bit wrong, then you need to see this guy. He  doesn't just prod boundaries, he skullfucks them.
