Editor's Choice - Comedy

21 March, 2011
by: Emma

Every Monday, our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Emma McAlpine selects her top three comedy nights.

Monday 21st March
Teenage Cancer Trust Comedy @ Royal Albert Hall

The Teenage Cancer Trust's eleventh annual week of comedy and music shows kicks off with a suitably starry comedy line-up including award-winning Liverpudlian, John Bishop, Comedy Rocks host Jason Manford, Inbetweeners star Greg Davies, Live at the Apollo's Kevin Bridges and Gavin and Stacey's James Corden. As well as a special guest apperance, there will be performances from popular newcomer Seann Walsh and Shooting Stars legend Angelos Epithemiou, AKA Dan Skinner. Tickets are pricey but it's all for a good cause and you get to see some hot-shit comics in a beautiful venue.

Thursday 24th March- Saturday 2nd April
Abandoman Pic 'n' Mix Tape @ Soho Theatre

Irish improv/musical duo Abandoman are quite unlike any other acts on the comedy circuit today, which could be why they managed to take out the highly competitive Hackney Empire New Act contest for 2010. Based on audience suggestions, hip-hopper/improv comedian Rob Broderick and singer/guitarist James Hancox create weird and wonderful (and completely spontaneous) songs. Their previous off-the-cuff works have included a series of complaint letters to Haribo done in the style of Eminem's 'Stan' and a song about the different strange things female audience members have in their handbags.

Thursday 24th March
Spoonfed Live @ Crack Comedy Islington

Finally - Spoonfed is throwing its own comedy bash! After listing other people's gigs all day it is a real treat to now be holding one of our own for you guys. We've got together with the team behind the ace Crack Comedy nights to bring you some of our favourite stand-up and sketch acts including English comedian of the year winner 2009, Matthew Osborn, the brilliantly surreal Beta Males and superb jokesmith and skilled storyteller, Carey Marx. Entertaining Anglophile Erich McElroy will be your host. Held in the distinctly un-pubby top floor of Islington Green's Slug and Lettuce, as the name suggests, this is going to be a cracking gig. See you there!
