Harry Hill's TV Burp and Outnumbered cleared up at the British TV Awards on Saturday night, winning five prizes between them.
BBC1 sitcom Outnumbered won three awards for Best Sitcom, Best British Comedy and Best Female Comedy Newcomer for young actress Ramona Marquez, while Harry Hill's TV Burp was named the Best Comedy Entertainment Programme for the third time in four years. The big-collared comic also scooped Best Entertainment Personality, beating Alan Carr and Michael McIntyre.
It wasn't all bad news for the Comedy Roadshow presenter however, who won the award for Best Live Stand-Up Performer, saying: "This is the one I really wanted."
Best TV Comedy Actor went to Inbetweeners star Simon Bird, while the Best Actress award went to The IT Crowd's Katharine Parkinson. Best Male Newcomer was won by Charlie Brooker for You Have Been Watching and Peter Kay was recognised for his Outstanding Contribution to Comedy.
Psychoville, the new black comedy by League of Gentlemen creators Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton, was named best New British Television Comedy and Armando Ianucci's polital satire In The Loop, won Best Comedy Film. On picking up his award Ianucci commented that there had been a "slight air of hostility towards Michael McIntyre" during the evening.
As always there were a few 'controversial' jokes dropped at the ceremony, not least by angry Glaswegian Frankie Boyle who, after opening with a sex abuse gag, said that seeing Pamela Anderson and Vivienne Westwood present an award together was "like looking at a before and after picture".
