Comedy editor Emma McAlpine selects her top three gigs for the week ahead.

Monday 3rd December-Saturday 5th January

Sam Simmons: About the Weather @ Soho Theatre
Tickets to top South African stand-up Trevor Noah's 2012 Fringe show may have sold out at the Soho Theatre next week but there are still some left for Sam Simmons, who also had a blinding run in Edinburgh this year. Expect more well-organised chaos and mind-boggling absurdity from the Aussie surrealist, an expert at weaving random threads of nonsense into comedy gold.

Wednesday 5th December-Thursday 13th December
Nick Mohammed is Mr Swallow 2012 @ The Invisible Dot
I couldn't recommend this show enough. The ridiculously talented Nick Mohammed returns with his harebrained character Mr Swallow; this time attempting to teach us about numbers. Imagine a camp version of Carol Voderman, with a bad jumper fetish. This is arguably Mohammed's finest show to date, a combination of pant-wettingly funny character comedy, mathematical genius and PowerPoint silliness.

Wednesday 5th December
McNeil and Pamphilon @ Pleasance Theatre
A slick double act that have been making steady ground on the sketch circuit in the last few years, McNeil and Pamphilon produced a really strong show this year, mixing consistently entertaining sketches with a clever story arc. Watch Daniel Day-Lewis take his method acting painfully seriously, the Talking Clock man driven mad by his repetitive job, and a disturbing body swap.
