Every Friday, our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week ahead. Emma McAlpine selects her top three gigs.

Monday 19th September
Are You Taking the Peace?
@ Comedy Store

A special night of stand-up featuring a superb line-up to mark the UN's International Day of Peace. The bill announced so far includes living stand-up legend Stewart Lee, fresh from the critically acclaimed second series of his Comedy Vehicle. Also on the line-up are master of witty one-liners Stewart Francis, inventive and unpredictable Canadian stand-up Pete Johansson, smart political comic Alistair Barrie, and lively loose cannon Rob Rouse.

Monday 19th September
Luke Wright's Cynical Ballads
@ Soho Theatre

The talented wordsmith brings his Edinburgh hit show to the Soho for one night only this week. Shining light on obese teenagers, jaded chip shop proprietors and posh twits with the luck of the devil, he leads us through the rundown shopping precincts and airless television studios of modern Britain. Each poem is backed by macabre projected illustrations as Wright makes mincemeat of his anti-heroes with rollicking, darkly comic verse.

Wednesday 23rd September
Mindful Comedy
@ Old Vic Tunnels

Tasty night of underground comedy in the Old Vic Tunnels hosted by offbeat funny lady Miriam Elia and Jessica Hynes of Spaced fame. The gig will also feature the extraordinary and brilliant Ben Target, talented character comedian David Reed, freewheeling Scottish nut Phil Kay, musical wit Danielle Ward, poet Tim Wells and harp music by Cevanne Horrocks-Hopayian.
