Every Friday, our editors bring you their personal highlights of the week to come. Emma McAlpine selects her top three gigs.

Monday 9th May

Beta Males Hostage Situation IV: Smoke and Mirrors
@ Wilmington Arms

The forth installment of the Beta Males' brilliantly curated nights will feature dark comic magicians Barry and Stuart, winner of the Leicester Mercury Comedian of the Year 2011, Ben Target and musical mirthmakers Horse & Louis. Hosted by my favoruite new sketch act The Beta Males, this will be a top night with plenty of different comedy genres to keep you entertained. Expect parlour games, new material, and superlative comic guests...

Monday 9th-Saturday 14th May
Des Bishop: My Dad Was Nearly James Bond @ Soho Theatre

A funny and touching show about the Irish-American comic's relationship with his father, who recently died of lung cancer. Encompassing family values and ideas about masculinity, Bishop tells the story of how his father moved from a career in acting and modeling to parenthood and retail management in New York. One of the most talked about shows at the Fringe last year, while it tugs at the heartstrings, it's packed full of enough witty observations and anecdotes to avoid the full cheese factor.

Wednesday 11th-Sunday 15th May
Adam Riches: Manthology
@ Leicester Square Theatre

Top character comic Adam Riches celebrates the best of his Edinburgh work, with a 'near seamless mix of live onstage milking, DVD copyright enforcement and movie star Pierce Brosnan as a Centaur'. Riches’ trademark mix of riotous interactive character comedy has caused his last four Edinburgh shows to sell out, starting with 'Victor Legit', a character monologue based on an inspector for the Federation Against Copywright Theft (FACT), fighting from the front line of DVD Piracy Law. Expect centaur-riding, udder-milking and a 'Play Your Tits Right' gameshow. If you're not a fan of interactive comedy, you may want to sit at the back.
