by: Guest Spot

Chantal Guevara, director of Cloud Dance Festival gives us a run down of the shows she's making time for this season.

From 8th - 20th October
Limen / Marguerite & Armand / Requiem @ Royal Opera House
The first triple bill of Monica Mason's final year as Director of the Royal Ballet opened last Saturday, and has received unanimous rave reviews. Specifically, the rave reviews are for Frederick Ashton's Marguerite & Armand - originally created for Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev in 1963, and performed sublimely by Sergei Polunin and Tamara Rojo, and for Kenneth Macmillan's Requiem, a haunting tribute to fellow choreographer and friend John Cranko. The triple bill opens with Wayne McGregor's Limen, which received rather more muted reviews.

Tickets are very limited, but definitely try to catch this!

3rd & 4th November
Scottish Ballet @ Sadler's Wells
Scottish Ballet return to London for the first time in two years, bringing a new work by contemporary ballet choreographer Jorma Elo and modern ballet classic Song of the Earth, choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan.

Scottish Ballet is Scotland's national dance company, and despite their name, their repertoire is extremely diverse, covering the full spectrum of works all the way from classical ballet to contemporary dance, performing works by choreographers including Richard Alston, William Forsythe and Hans van Manen.

4th November
New Art Club @ The Place
New Art Club are, quite simply, the most fun you can have while watching dance. And even better: this show is a collection of their "greatest hits" from the past 10 years, and features special mystery guests and a post-show disco. If you're even remotely interested in dance, New Art Club are not to be missed!

From 15th - 19th November
Rambert Dance Company @ Sadler's Wells
Rambert is one of the country's best-loved contemporary dance companies. This triple bill includes Mark Baldwin's latest work 'Seven for a secret, never to be told' and a new work by controversial choreographer Javier De Frutos.

From 19th - 30th November
'Asphodel Meadows' / 'Enigma Variations' / 'Gloria' @ Royal Opera House
A friend recently asked if this triple bill would be suitable for her nephew, who's never watched dance, and the unanimous response was "Yes, yes and yes".

Asphodel Meadows, the highlight of this triple bill, was choreographed by rising star Liam Scarlett. 'Enigma Variations', by Ashton, is a celebration of Elgar's music, while MacMillan's 'Gloria' is a response to the futility of war.

From 1st - 3rd December
Sydney Dance Company @ Queen Elizabeth Hall
Rafael Bonachela, the Artistic Director of Sydney Dance Company, is one of the most exciting choreographers today, and this is the company's first visit to London since his appointment three years ago, in which time he has completely transformed and reinvigorated the company.

Rafael Bonachela's career has included choreographing for Kylie Minogue, winning the first Place Prize, being shortlisted in 2003 for the National Dance Awards for Outstanding Repertoire (Modern), and being Rambert's associate choreographer.
