Pacha's 7th Birthday

Pacha's 7th Birthday

It's 9pm on a cold, frosty, frozen London Saturday night and our usually traffic-filled drive into town takes half the time as we whiz along streets so clear you could be mistaken for thinking we were trapped in the film 28 Days Later. We're on our way to Pacha for our first gig back since October 2008 and we'd be forgiven for thinking it could be a quiet night. We're led to believe by the bleak economic climate that everyone is tucked up in bed with 22 duvets and a cup of hot chocolate, counting the pennies in their piggy banks and chiding the government, banking sector or whoever else is this week's scapegoat for hard times and hapless spending.

Looking out the window as we cross over Battersea Bridge even the Thames seems flat and still, the lights from Albert Bridge reflected on its glassy surface. So, one hour later, as we let loose with our opening track, James and I begin to wonder how our night is going to pan out.

It appears that the Great British enthusiasm for partying the night away is beyond the grip of doom and gloom. As we settle into pacier tracks and bigger build ups the scene before us unfolds into a packed dance floor full of dancing feet and waving arms. We should have known all along that the faithful would be here to see Tim Sheridan smash the system in honour of Pacha's big 7.

By the time we get off the decks the crowd are chomping at the bit. Tim Sheridan steps up to whoops and whistles, puts his first track on and from start to finish, he doesn't disappoint. His brand of wonky, bouncy and twisted tech beats blasts the crowd and shows them how veryverywrongindeed he can be. His deft-defying control of a plastic platter raises the eyebrows of 'those in the know' as he slips in tricks and twists of inspiring ability, entertaining DJs and clubbers alike.

Upstairs all night, the DJs keep a hungry crowd at bay with a mix of uplifting electro and filthy techno. Our own Itch DJs all deliver blisteringly good sets and are chanted on and off the decks by the crowd all night.

One thing is clear from everyone we speak to, Pacha is on form. Perceptions are changing and everyone will be back again for more in 2009.
