Witness the shape of things to come...

Tired of seeing sub-par bands in dodgy venues? Wanna get more out of your Friday nights? Wanna boogie on down to some freakishly wicked sounds? Well then, all you need do is get your keisters down to Dalston's Moustache Bar on October 7th for the launch of a brand spanking new night Pap•il•lon! Pronounced “pap-ee-yon” you'll need a bit of time getting used to the name, but that's just part of its sexually mysterious charm.
Anyway, finding myself needing to know more, I got in bed with the two minds behind this funk-a-delic night to find out what it's all about. Here’s what I found out:-
PAP•IL•LON from PAP•IL•LON on Vimeo.
What’s the inspiration behind Pap•il•lon?
Our friends are a huge influence on us. Mireia's flatmate, Tristan and our friend Leo have introduced us to some amazing stuff like Sonik Omi and Witch. Also, Brian (Awesome Tapes from Africa) and Bo Ningen who both played for us while we were running Dance Magic Dance; they were some of the best nights we'd ever put on.
I guess we've taken the memories of those nights, added our love of ‘70s psych-rock and all this weird world music that we're constantly discovering and built it into a whole concept.
What will make this different to all the other nights out there? Will there be a 2:1 ratio of girls to boys or something like that?
There’ll be a 2:1 ratio of boys to girls if we have anything to do with it!! Although you’ll be please to hear that some of our girlfriends have promised to dress up and be our go-go dancers. I think the music will be the main difference though; you’re going to dance to some crazy-ass shit!
Why did you move from Shoreditch to Dalston?
It wasn’t a conscious move or anything; we just wanted somewhere to party that is intimate and fun. We’ve always loved the Moustache Bar and have had pretty ridiculous nights out there, so it just felt right.
What exactly is the music policy?
As long as it has roots in world music /psychedelia and makes you wanna stomp your feet, it’ll fly.
Cool, so what tracks will you two lovely ladies be spinning for sure?
Check out our soundcloud!
Seeing as you ladies are pretty creative and hands-on and whatnot, will you be making signs that say “No Requests”?
We don’t mind requests, as long as they’re psychedelic world beat requests, that we happen to have in our record bag...
Tell us about Awesome Tapes from Africa, The Silent Whale of Luna Sea and Leeuw. Are they cool dudes or crazy motherfuckers?
Awesome Tapes from Africa is a fearsome warrior from the deepest darkest concrete jungle. The story goes that if you look him directly in the eye you will spontaneously combust within a few minutes.
The Silent Whale of Luna Sea is a shy, mystical creature that only exists once you transcend to a unified state of cosmic consciousness, and Leeuw is said to be from a parallel universe far, far away, where he spends his days sailing the ethereal planes on his silver magic ship.
After the launch night, what have you sassy ladies got in-store for the ever-so demanding public?
We have a few things in the pipeline. We've been working with film maker Craig Murray a lot recently and have made some videos. We want to collaborate with more people and make things not just run a club night.
What message/advice/tips do you have for the youth of today?
We find most lessons are best learnt firsthand but whatever you do you should always keep in mind that in the UK it is illegal to be drunk when in possession of a cow, horse or a steam engine.
And finally, what are we doing tonight?
The same thing we do every night Pinky. Try to take over the worrlddd.
